Agriculture

Ukraine is a country that has truly great development potential in all sectors of the economy, especially in agriculture. The following factors explain why:

  • Ukraine has 10 to 40% of all black soils (chernozem) in the world according to various expert estimates

  • The climate and moisture level are favorable to crop farming

  • The cost of production and leasing land are relatively low
  • There is access to large swaths of agricultural land and the opportunity for long term land leasing

  • There is a high potential for yield growth with the application of modern land cultivation and crop growing technologies

  • Ukraine has a very advantageous geographic location (located at the trade crossroads between Asia, the Middle East and Western Europe).

The prospects for promising growth in the Ukrainian agriculture sector emerged during the industry’s consolidation stage, which has considerably increased in the past few years. As of 2008, the number of medium and large independent agricultural enterprises decreased 2.5 times compared to the year 2000. According to research conducted by the UkrAgroConsult analytical center, today nearly 11% of all Ukraine’s arable land is controlled by 18 companies.
